A neuroma is a painful nerve irritation found in the ball of the foot
It is a benign growth of nerve tissue between the metatarsals
It leads to pain, burning, tingling or numbness between the toes and in the ball of the foot
Causes?
Biomechanical instability around the toes caused by a flat or high arched foot can cause a neuroma to develop
Shoes that are tight or high heeled can cause pressure and aggravate the condition
Treatment
Footwear – shoes with a wide toe box, low heel and adjustable laces or buckles
Your Podiatrist can help reduce pressure and therefore generally reduce pain in the area with the use of padding and taping and possibly foot orthotics
Some cases require referral to consider surgical options
